Farewell Twenty Eleven!

It’s that exciting time of year again. New Years Eve. The beauty of NYE brings forth countless emotions- for some, it may be the excitement of having a fresh start and rectifying mistakes; for others it may bring a sense of peace, knowing that you will never see the year 2011 again! And yet still, others may be looking back with a sense of nostalgia, reminiscent of the collage of memories that have been harvested over the past year.

As I wave goodbye to the delectable foods, cakes and bakes of 2011, I also raise my glass to the new. However you choose to spend NYE, be grateful for every blessing that was passed your way, and be expectant that ‘the best is yet to come’. (Frank Sinatra)

Happy New Year!

Farewell Twenty Eleven

'Til next year

Two blogs that I recommend you read in the new year:

Tastes Like Christmas

Christmas Eve: Festive jumper and baking books at the ready.

Christmas Eve: I wrapped up the last of the family gifts.

Christmas Eve: Gifts under the tree

Christmas Day: The meat section!

Dessert is served: my famous carrot cake

A beautiful ending to the Christmas feast.

MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE! Or should I say, Merry belated Christmas… I had planned to make a post on Christmas Eve and Christmas day itself but I couldn’t tear myself away from all the mouth watering food and my excitable family ; )

Although Christmas day has been and gone I like to think that my Christmas doesn’t end until New Year’s Eve. So that means comfy clothes, with room to expand the waistline; mixing bowl ready to do more baking, and be prepared to laugh so hard I ‘improve’ my six pack!

Every year in my family a different household hosts Christmas day (+Christmas Eve), and it usually alternates between my Aunts and Uncles. This year my immediate family did the hosting and I sat down with my Mum last week to plan the menu. My family are of Ghanaian origin so we had a few traditional treats up our sleeve:

Christmas Eve

Jollof rice / BBQ + Jerk chicken wings / Salad / Banana cupcakes with maple+cream cheese frosting.

Christmas Day

Leg of Lamb / 3 Bird Roast: Chicken wrapped in Duck, wrapped in Turkey / Salmon / Roast potatoes / Steamed vegetables / Gravy / Chicken stew / Boiled rice / Coleslaw / Home-made sausage bites with pepper dip

Carrot Cake / Merry Sherry trifle

I’m sure you can see that my Christmas was more than satisfactory. My belly was full, my sweet tooth satisfied, and the Christmas feast mission was accomplished.

Hope you all had a fantastic time!

Christmas Countdown

Hello my lovelies,

How has your day been? I’ve been super busy to say the least. With only 2days til Christmas I still have a bundle of things to do… Today my sisters and I spent 3-4hrs cleaning the house in preparation for Christmas, whilst listening to the soulful sounds of Mariah Carey & Michael Buble’s Christmas albums. I also went for a run, made dinner for the family, and even managed to do some late night Christmas shopping. It’s amazing what you can do in 24hrs.

When it comes to Christmas I get super excited, I’m like the biggest kid ever and every year seems to get better! The family reunions, the food, the Christmas carols, the movies, the gifts- everything gets me jumping for joy! This year I’m particularly excited about the feast that my Mother, sisters and I will be preparing. (All will be revealed in my next post.)

What ‘s on your Christmas menu this year? Leave your comments below or tweet me @trace_cupcake89. Til then sweet dreams.

New Kid on the Block

Hello fellow cake lovers!

I come to bring you good tidings, peace, and cake inspirations from lands far and wide. My thinking is simple, I love cake. I dream cake, I bake cake, I eat cake and now I want to write about cake.

Earlier this year I decided that I wanted to start a cake blog and I thought the best time to start it would be in the New Year, but as this year is beginning to draw to a close I thought, why wait? I have the brain power, I have the time, let’s go. And here I am ladies and gentlemen, recipe book and mixing bowl at the ready, eager to spread the cake lovin’ your way.

On this blog you’ll find quick and easy baking recipes, baking tips, recommended books, tools, caterers and TV shows. In addition to all of these sweet treats I will be sharing a journal of my baking triumphs and mishaps. I hope that you will be able to take some daily cake wisdom from my blog and that you will continue on this journey with me. If you like what you read tell all your cake lovin’ friends , if not, keep it to yourself!
